Matt Hickman, M.S., LPC

Matt is a Licensed Professional Counselor. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Social Psychology from Goshen College, a Master of Divinity from Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary, and a Master's Degree in Clinical Counseling from Lincoln Christian University. He took in lectures on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder at King's College London (UK) and volunteered at an assisted living home for a semester in San Rafael de Guatuso, Alajuela, Costa Rica (Central America).
Matt is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), and has completed Theraplay Level One training. Matt specializes in play therapy, attachment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and narrative therapy. He helps clients with such things as sensory processing disorder, childhood trauma, anxiety, ADHD, adjustment disorder, emotional regulation, tic disorders, developmental delays, learning disabilities and autism spectrum disorders.
He has experience working with children and adults, alike, and does individual or family therapy. Clinical experiences include a Master's-level internship at Home Sweet Home Ministries in Bloomington, IL, and adoption preservation counseling at The Baby Fold in Normal, IL. Prior to becoming a counselor Matt served just under a decade as the Associate Pastor of Youth and Family Life at the Mennonite Church of Normal (IL) working with children from birth to late adolescence, and their families.
Matt is an avid reader and his most common reading choices are comic books and fiction novels. He loves gardening with native plants, and has volunteered with The ParkLands Foundation, a central Illinois land trust. He is an adoptive parent of four children. A little known fact about Matt is that he had a job making concrete lawn ornaments in college.
